Update and Upcoming show
A lot has happened musically between the last post and this post! First, I’d like to announce that I will be performing in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge with the Dave Soldier Orchestra this coming Sunday at 7pm. Tickets are getting low so better try and get yours, now: https://lpr.com/lpr_events/dsoldier23/ One of the pieces I’ll be performing in is part of the, “People’s Choice Music,” which is a really fun! We’ve made a change to it where I’ll be using the bass-harmonica for some of the improv sections, and the diatonic for the rest. We just had our first performance of it at Rutgers University which went very well. I’m really looking forward to this coming performance. Read more about the song here: http://davesoldier.com/experimental.html#Peopleswill
The other song I’ll be playing in, “Sing of Nature,” is going to be on chromatic-harmonica and chamber orchestra. It’s really been a wonderful experience playing with the other musicians!
I’m finalizing some details about Make Music Philly and their harmonica class. I’ll confirm that everything is all good to go, on here.
Other updates are there were several more studio calls into Morningstar Studios to record on some albums, one time for a rehearsal with a full band for singer-songwriter Liz Miller for her album release party. Since about 2020 I’ve had the opportunity to record diatonic and chromatic harmonicas on two of Liz’s albums full of original songs. The album release party happened about a month ago at The Living Room in Ardmore, PA with a sold out crowd. It was really fantastic and I played on all of her songs that originally had harmonica on it, and other songs as well. One tune, called ‘Blue Room,’ had a cello on it, and Liz asked if I could cover that part. I did using my Hohner Bass 78 bass harmonica with fantastic results. Another song had muted trumpet parts, and I used a Hohner Super 64x Performance on it. I even threw in the Hohner Chord 48 for the song called, ‘ADD,’ to match some of the chaotic energy.
The incredible Liz Miller Band included the grammy award winning recording engineer and producer, Glenn Barratt, who also recorded each of these albums for Liz. Glenn joined us on rhythm guitar. The band was made up of:
Liz Miller: Lead Vocals
Kevin Hanson: Electric Guitar
Glenn Barratt: Acoustic Guitar
Chico Huff: Bass
John Conahan: Piano
Erik Johnson: Drums
Lisa Jeanette: Backing Vocals
Debra Lee: Backing Vocals
Boaz Kim: Harmonicas
Another update is I have been extremely busy with harmonica and shruti box repairs. Amongst my current workload, I have taken on repairing the old Hohner Harmonettas. I have 4 more Harmonettas to repair with 1 completely finished and another almost finished. I will be updating my price list soon.
